  • Primary/reserve beneficiary

Hi all, hopefully this should be pretty straightforward.

I am 40 and my wife is 31. We have no children.

I am looking into writing a will and of course would be naming my wife as the primary beneficiary along with my brother as a reserve beneficiary.

My question is if my wife and I were to die in a plane crash/car crash/similar, would my brother benefit at all from my estate? My understanding is not as my wife being younger would be assumed to have survived me, and the entirety of our estate would go to her next of kin - in which case I guess the answer is that she should get a will too!

Your understanding and guess are correct. You should both see solicitors to get wills professionally prepared.
