Title deeds to property

Hello and thanks for reading my post. I would like to know what happens if a person dies and leaves a property equally between two individuals, does the property (following probate) automatically go in to joint ownership between the two beneficiaries? Is there ever circumstances where only one beneficiary would appear as the new sole owner and if so what paperwork would need to be signed in regards to such an arrangement?

I should mention that the property is in Scotland and the person passed away in the early 1980’s.
