Hi, I made a new house purchase recently and had an electrician out to move a fuse box. He told me the house would need a whole rewire job at a cost of about 7.5k, it’s a 3 bedroom semi detached. He also informed me there is no earth in the property which was very concerning. When they surveying was done by the bank for the mortgage should this not have been mentioned or notified? Thanks

What level of survey was undertaken? Have you read the assumptions, exclusions etc in the report?Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Not necessarily if everything is working, but it's very important for the house to be 'earthed'. It would have been prudent to have a Electrical Installation Condition Report (ERIC) report done. You need to make enquiries with the estate agent and solicitors, see what the documents relating to the purchase say regarding the electrics.
