          Just to update ;

          I replied to their email stating I didn’t think the costs they were trying to charge me were fair. I admitted that the light needed replacing as it was cracked , and also said I would pay a bit more for other cosmetic issues .
          They replied to my email saying after discussing with a manager they are happy to proceed with 50% off the original sum , so £360 or there abouts .

          This is their email ;

          Thank you for your email,

          After reviewing your account with management, we are happy to accept half the balance as a full & final settlement. The amount will be £360.71. Once paid, the remainder will be written off. Payment can be made using the bank details below. Please note that it can take up to 2 working days for bank payments to be applied to your agreement.

          I wrote back to them asking how they will report to the credit reference agencies , specially if they will mark it as partially satisfied etc . I am yet to hear back however they did try and phone me this afternoon to pay my ‘outstanding liability’’.
          I resent the email and added that I will not be discussing this with them on the phone as I want written correspondence.

          I will update when I hear back.

            Hello, another update in case anyone is actually interested .

            I contested the amount that Startline were trying to charge me for damages , and they were actually very good and got back to be saying they would accept 50% of the amount in full and final settlement. I asked how they would mark my credit report , and they didn’t really answer me until I kept pushing and emailing again. They got back to me saying that as my payments as part of the agreement were up to date , and this is only the damage amounts, this wouldn’t get recorded on my credit report and it will just be a voluntary termination record on my agreement saying it has been closed .

            I made the payment today for the damages and will be sure to keep an eye on my credit report.
            hopefully I’m not speaking too soon, but I haven’t found the process as bad as I expected .

              Well done on getting it resolved.
