  • Is our arrangement "legal"?

My son has become homeless and is "sofa-surfing" at friend's houses and sleeping in his van; trying to exist on Universal Credit while looking for work. He is also recovering from injuries sustained when he was robbed recently which are more mental than physical. We can't have him live with us for reasons I don't want to go into, but I have let him register our address as his (DWP (benefit), HMRC (he owes tax), bank, car (DVLA & insurance), voting list, etc.) and try to let him know (he doesn't always answer his mobile) when any post arrives and read it to him over the phone. The arrangement is open ended and I have no idea when he'll be back on his feet with a place he can call home.

My questions are: Is our arrangement legal? Where do Travellers register their vehicles, etc? What else could he do?

Hi, just seen this "old" post so apologies for not responding earlier.

AFAIK you are acting perfectly legally
As a homeless person he is using your address solely as a contact point

travellers generally use a plot on one of their sites as their address
