I am a home based but salaried field engineer who travels the country fixing post office, shell & lottery equipment etc. We have no office only a store where we pick up parts from. Several days last week and also this week I have been unable to get my works van out of our area to get to work. Each day I attempted to go I would end up getting stuck and having to be towed back. I would spend a good part of the day digging the van out to no avail and those that did manage got stuck on gridlocked motorways all day. I informed my employers every day of the situation and no alternative was offered such as a more appropriate works vehicle or that I could get a taxi to another less affected area to pick up a van. My employers supply the vehicle and it was not adequate for the conditions especially as it is heavily loaded with equipment. Also some days they had me phone up post offices to fix calls over the phone. Now that I am back at work they say I will not get paid for any of these days I was given no warning that this might happen. Because of the nature of my work I couldn't walk to work (no office)and it was because they couldn't provide me with an alternative vehicle that I couldn't do my job. There has been no communication from my managers just one curt text stating I would not be paid and not to bother phoning him as he couldn't take phone calls. What are my rights?

Not good news, but at least it tells you where you stand.
