  • Redundancy and then Company Hiring

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice regarding my former employer.

I was made redundant in January 2025, but to provide a bit of backstory:

In August 2024 the team I was employed in consisted of:
    1x Development Manager
    1x Senior Development Officer (myself)
    1x Junior Development Officer

In August the Manager decided to leave the company for a new role elsewhere and, to save money, the decision was made not to replace them, but move another role from within the company to absorb the management responsibilities.

Then in October 2024, I was informed my role was to be made redundant, to save money, and the new team would consist of 2 Junior Development Officers, and the aforementioned manager that had been squeezed in.

I left the company in January 2025, and they appointed 2 Junior Officers. They have gone out for a new Manager recently and this is where my query starts.

The salaries of the 2 Junior Officers are higher than what they were previously, and the manager's salary is higher than what mine was. As I was told my redundancy was purely to cut expense, would I have a claim for unfair dismissal, or would it just be seen as replacing the previous manager from before my redundancy even came about?

Firstly when exactly in Jan was your employment terminated due to redundancy?

Yes, the company can recruit for a management role, particularly if the company's financial or operational situation has changed since your redundancy occurred.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
