Vetting not listed on job description

    Hi all,

I have accepted a new job within HMPPS, however I am required to pass Non-police Personnel (NPPV Level 2) vetting before I can officially start. I believe I will fail this vetting as I lived abroad and have only been back in the UK for 2.5years and I think the requirement is 3 years.

The job description does not state that this vetting is required nor does it state any residency requirements (if it had I wouldn't have applied), the only thing that is mentioned is in the list of duties "Act as point of contact for all Violent and Sex Offender Register (ViSOR) issues in the security department". This is amongst a large list of duties and does not specify that enhanced vetting is required in order to do this.

The only thing the job descriptions states in regards to checks is "All candidates are subject to security and identity checks prior to taking up post".

My question is, does a job description need to explicitly state what vetting is required, or can I argue that as this wasn't specified I should not have to complete the vetting, and therefore can do everything else the job entails except ViSOR, which by all accounts I will never use anyway!

    Thanks,
    Jo

A job does not necessarily have to specify explicitly what is required as it is covered in the phrase "All candidates are subject to security and identity checks prior to taking up post".

You can try the argument you want to put forward but your prospective employer may not accept this.
