  • Jobseeking help/following interview

    Hi there,

Thanks for allowing me to join and I'm sorry in advance if this thread is a 'more what would you do'.

I had a great interview yesterday that I really thought I was being seriously considered for, application numbers were 5, being in the interview room for an hour as I think must go down as one of my longest ever interviews.
(it certainly helped get my interview mojo back and I wouldn't swap anything for the moment of happiness it gave)

Appreciate Employer can feel differently, but still taken aback when only way I learn I've been unsuccessful is now with a red 'not selected' shown against the indeed job posting a day later.
(Haven't heard any other way directly from employer as it were)

I hadn't been expecting to find out this way really so wanted to canvas opinions as to how to go forward -

    1) Contact them explaining I believe I've been unsuccessful and least it's acknowledged.
    2) Follow up (like I would have intended) as if I haven't seen indeed.

There is a degree of curiosity to this - for at least the past 18 months I haven't worked for the greatest of past Employers, (and some of this has been my fault) one furloughed frauded me and the other, paid nil pension contributions for 6 months for no good reason - I realise these might not have taken well to being reported and curiosity along with very worst case thinking..... is thinking I wonder if the interviewing company tried to get references of course.

I'm also aware getting hold of a copy of reference nowadays maybe that bit harder? I kept it only positive in my interview to try and maintain dignity (and actually don't want to end up vulnerable to another employer who thinks I'm an easy target) but do worry the past employer/s now had chance it spin it badly.

    Many thanks for reading.

    Hi February81

A neat post, I think you are a 'heart on your sleeve person' (nothing wrong with that), tell it as it is when you've had enough of the 'dross' churned out by companies. I would write to the employer, it is a win / win situation. If they provide feed back, you win / if they don't, you still win, simply because you have nothing to lose. There are 'good, caring employers' out there, you just need to find them.

ULA Can you please take a look and advise, many thanks.

It is quite normal for an unsuccessful applicant to write politely to the company saying how disappointed they were and how much they would have liked to work for them and to ask if it would be possible for them to provide feedback after the interview. As Echat says, you have nothing to lose

I echo what has already been said.

There is no harm in going back saying that you believe from the recruitment website, you have been unsuccessful but that you would value some feedback in order to help you for future job applications and interviews.

Not all company's will provide feedback but if they do, then it may be useful to you for the next time.

Good luck with the job hunting.

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

Thank you so much again. I've sent of an email.

I have come to wonder if they were just looking speculatively. Definitely can never really tell how something has gone.

Out of the two interviews yesterday - one was a 10 minuter for the two questions they asked, I managed to get 7 in - now that was a situation where I could see them doing the indeed not selected and running!!

Just wanted to update that seems I had been a silly girl!

Would seem it is just a new modern norm to get a red not selected on a certain job board - I really thought it just applied to applications but seems it does apply to job interviews too)

Today was an expressed definite date to hear from Tuesday's short interview, logging onto Indeed I see the 'not selected' had happened again.
