  • Accused of making threatening type statement at work

Hello! I was called into office at work by manager and an assistant today. A co-worker told them that I made some racist statements a few days ago and that I said something to the effect I would like to harm someone in the parking lot. Manager was rather vague about the nature of this act of violence I am accused of saying. I didn't say anything at all about a parking lot or wanting to harm someone to anyone! They told me who made this accusation; he gave them permission to use his name. I denied making such a statement. Manager said she will talk to a few people and do follow up with me. I am just curious if I can be terminated or disciplined for making a statement I didn't make. To the best of my knowledge I haven't had any issues with this co-worker.

It sounds, quite correctly, that your company is going to investigate the situation. If there were no witnesses to the alleged incident then it will become a case of they said and this case you did not say and difficult to prove. I would try not to worry and see what happens as a result of the manager's discussions with other people.

Come back and let us know how it goes.
