Lowell/ Edf bill claim

I have moved away from an address in May 2012 and Lowell is chasing me for an unpaid edf bill for the amount of £750. ( Apparently is for 3 months, which its impossible as it was a small 1 bed flat).
Anyway.
They say the default day of the account was in 2014 September, which I know its nonsense. I have sent the prove it later which they have given me the copy of the defaulted edf account I(stating Sept 2014)
My question is there a template complaint letter or else is there any information I have to include in the letter? Ive been advised to complain to them first , I just have never written such a letter.

Do you have evidence of your move at all ?

Are they saying the bill was incurred in 2012 before you moved and the account only defaulted following non payment in 2014, or is it a bill from after you'd oved out ( have they sent you a copy of the bill ?)

Did you inform EDF when you moved out ?

What did your 'prove it' letter say ? and what does their response actually show - is that a copy of the bill?

I think a Subject Access Request asking for the copy of the bill, original contract, transactions and call / letter / email records etc will help with your complaint. Subject Access Request Letter

Hi,
I gave them a final reading exactly on the 16 May 2012 and they knew my new address. Where ive got sent nothing after that. The last payment was made in May 2012. They have sent a defaulted account letter in 2014 to my new address but as I moved to friends in 2012 after a divorce I did not stayed too long only after September 2012. Ive got the prove it letter template from national debt helpline to send to lowell. I can attach a copy later on I get home. Theyve attached a copy of the dafulted account dated 2014. Ive been advised by national debt line to send them a complaint letter but he could not help me further as they had a fire alarm at their office. . This was yesterday. The last communication I had from Lowell is that they given me 30days to prove its not my debt.

Lowell can bog off, it's for them to prove it IS your debt, not the other way around. Was that letter from them a pre-action / letter before claim letter with a reply form ?

It would help if you can get a SAR off to EDF asking for specifics of the account and bills regarding that address and relating to you. You could ring them and ask for the information directly as well, but best to get a written formal SAR in the post in case you need it later. If you speak to EDF ask them about your old account and when it was closed, what the final reading was/final bill and was there anything outstanding. Should give you something to go on. They might not have the info as they've sold the debt on to Lowell, or if it isn't your account but a later tenant, you may not pass data protection security... but worth a shot see if it sheds any light. But yes if you can attach a copy of the prove it letter and the copy of Lowells response, and whatever this 'copy of the defaulted account' 'evidence' is we can give you a hand writing back and making a compalint.

Okayyyyyyy, bit odd but nothing terrible in there. So you are kind of arguing the debt is statute barred ~( presumably because it was pre-2012 ) ~ and that seems to be all you have said ? Nothing about having settled the account previously with EDF and giving a final reading when you moved out in 2012 etc.

Think the reply might be more useful so we can see what Lowell are working off of xxxx
