  • Small Claims - When do i have to give notice of representation if litigant in person

I have a small claims hearing coming up. I have a question please which I cannot seem to find answers for on CPR.

I am a litigant in person against another litigant in person.
When do I have to give the courts/ respondent notice that I am being represented by a solicitor at the hearing?

    Kind regards

If you are represented by a solicitor at the hearing you are no longer a litigant in person. Litigant in person means someone representing themselves in person. You don’t have to inform anyone that you are being represented by a solicitor you just turn up on the day with your solicitor but you cannot claim your solicitor’s costs from the other party even if you win your case, you will have to pay your solicitor yourself.
