• Recieved A letter from MONUMENT

Hi guys.

I had a credit card from monument back in 2006 which i did not pay off and went on until it disappeared from my credit file as i made no contact and the 6 years past since last payment made.

Today I received a letter from monument stating

:
Further to your recent contact with our customer service department, please find a cheque enclosed for the outstanding credit balance of your Monument visa credit card account as requested.

it has a cheque of some 300 odd amount attached to it.

Just wanted to know if that is legit as I never contacted them at all and this letter came out of the blue.
I wonder how they have my present address as I have been out of contact with them for last 11 years.

Please let me know if it is legit or a trap to make me accept a statute barred debt again.

Thanks
Adam

Monument did have something called 'Payment Break Plan' and having a nosy they are repaying this with interest. Once a debt is statute barred it can not be unbarred and therefore no legal action can be taken against you.
If your happy with the amount I would go treat yourself x

Hi Adam, similar situation to my own. Did you present the cheque? Was it genuine or did it bounce?

Bit of a bump of an old-ish thread, but I've been searching for the same question online as I received a cheque from Monument in similar circumstances in February 2017.

Did you present the cheque in the end? What happened? I've held off presenting mine due to similar worries (although I'm fairly sure I paid Monument) but the cheque will expire soon and so I need to decide what to do.

Thanks

I would get it paid in - it will only be valid for six months. We haven't heard anyone reporting back any adverse effects from presenting the cheques.

Thanks Pax, it would really help me to pay it in as something unrelated has come out of the woodwork so it'd take the edge off!

I think I'll pay it in and leave it alone for a while
