Boots can't take anything further, they have suffered no loss and dealt with it by banning you from the store.

It's understandable that your parents will worry because we want to protect our children.

If they phone again, just put the phone down.
There is no law that says you must talk to them, and if you engage with them they just up the pressure.

I still feel that you shouldn't pay rlp a penny 11gumbear and I'm certain that's the advice you'd get from other Beagles too ( des8 for example )

Re: boots shoplifting rlp

Oh dear, no change there then.
A letter full of legalese , but very short on substance and factual information that would ever stand up in court if challenged by a good defence.

Their letter states: civil law encourages early exchange of information" but they have not given you any info, just veiled threats.
Where have they substantiated the figure of £190? They haven't because it is a figure plucked out of the air.

Contrary to your parents, we will continue to advise keep ignoring.

You owe Boots nothing, they lost nothing, their security staff were doing what they get paid for whether or not you were shoplifting. They need to quantify that loss figure!
Ignore.

i'm so anxious now, I honestly thought i'd be fine with this but my parents are on my back about paying it and Boots wanting to take it further. I feel like they'd want to take it further by from what the letter says.

which is exactly the reaction they are wanting to get from you!! Honestly hun ... rlp are not worth it, they prey on the young and weak to try and line their pockets!!

Have you shown your parents the threads on here??

Re: boots shoplifting rlp

I can understand your emotional state.
RLP are past masters at pressurising their victims, that is how they make their money.
On top of that you have your parents wanting this to go away.
RLP realise this, they know that neither you nor your parents are accustomed to this sort of situation, and so keep up the pressure.

Boots will not want to take this to court.
It is not RLP who initiate court action.
If they should go to court they would need to prove how much they had lost.
That is basically all they could recover.
As it would be a small claim track matter ,they could only recover very limited costs , and it would cost more than they could recover, if they were successful.
RLP's clients lost heavily last time they tried.

In this country we have rules of law: civil and criminal.
They are enforced by the courts, who in criminal cases impose fines etc, in civil case they impose damages and costs.
RLP try and impose their own version of civil law without recourse to the courts.
They act like vigilantes, and impose penalties they dress up in legalese.

IMO their actions are much more despicable than your action could ever be.
Shops display wares on a "pick me up" basis, and it is only natural that occasionally people (especially the young or vulnerable) give in to temptation.
RLP's modus operandi is to pressurise the vulnerable

Please stop fretting over this very minor incident.
If you can persuade your parents to support you rather than give into RLP that would be great.
If not perhaps your parents would pay this extortionate demand

Were there two of you involved in the incident ? ( top of page 2 of that letter )

so on tuesday, me and my friends were caught shoplifting in Boots.
Ahhh yes. 3 of you ? What are your friends doing with theirs ? RLP are saying that only one of you needs to pay the compensation ( or pay it between you half/half etc) as it's claimed on a joint and several liability basis.

I think point parents at the judgment and get them to read.

Would it be prudent to remind RLP of the Oxford case?
