Hi there,
When I moved into our new rented property I obviously received a few letters for the previous tenants. No matter how many times I sent the letters back they kept coming. Over time new names started appearing all with an Eastern Europe twang to them.
The most impressive time was when I receive 16 letters from O2 in one day all to different people. I then continued to receive these letters every week for almost 2 months. Until I decided to open one (yes, I know it’s illegal but this was beyond a joke).
The letter I open was for an account that was opened after I moved in and that account was now hundreds of pounds in debt. This lead to me opening another 2 each letter was the same, so I phoned O2 and told them, this stopped the O2 letters.
Over the 4 years I have lived here I have on occasion accidently opened one of these random persons letters and ever time it’s the same, pay money now you are xyz in debit and I just continue to return them and ignore them.
Today however I opened one that has me worried, as it’s a County Court Judgement as the person in question has not replied to any letters.
As you can imagine this has me worried as this Judgement is registered to my address for someone who does not and has not ever lived at this address.
So, my question is what do I do next about this CCJ? Followed by, how do I stop my addresses being used fraudulently like this?
