    please help..
on 25/2/17 i bought a used car from a small car dealer and it was two week before i drove it as i had to get it taxed & insured plus sorn my old car. after driving the new car for about two weeks the oil warning light came on so i topped it up with almost 1ltr of oil and the warning light went off.
about one week later the same warning light came on so i put another 1ltr in and the warning light went off again but then i noticed white smoke coming out of the rear, i called the dealer and he told me that it was just access oil burning off and would be OK. over one week later the smoke was still coming from the back so i asked the dealer to sort out the problem. the dealer told me to take it to a Peugeot dealer to get a diagnostic done on it witch i did and thats when i found out how many faults there were with the car, cut a long story short the dealer i took it to said that the car would probably need a new engine. i told the dealer i got the car from and he said that he would give me three options, 1 he would collect the car and take it to a garage he uses witch i agreed to. 2 he would go half to take the engine out and repair the fault, 3 would return the car and let me sort out any repairs at no cost to himself. he took the car and almost two weeks later he informed me that over 7.2ltrs of oil was taken from the car witch only holds 4.2ltrs and he would would have no more dealings with me and blames me for the engine troubles witch is a lie as the peugeot dealer i took it to told me that it only had half the amount of oil in it that should be in it.. 2.1ltrs approx.
so here i am i sent him a final letter asking for a full refund or i will take court action but the only thing is i dont know if i can win this and i cant afford the costs of going to court, is there anything i can do or anyone i can turn to for help, every way iv try,d will cost me an arm and a leg and i know the dealer knows this...

Re: used car dealer wont refund my money

      Hi and welcome.

You purchased a vehicle which was unsatisfactory etc etc
You gave the trader an opportunity to repair it.
He failed to do so.(and seems prepared to lie!)
You sent a letter before action.
      You can win!
Regarding the cost of court action, you may be entitled to fee remission(http://hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.u...aflets_id=2835)

PS WHITE smoke from exhaust is a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber, oil burning produces BLUE smoke,
If you decide to initiate court action, and I don't see you have any alternative if you want to recoup your costs, we can help with the claim.

How much did you pay for the vehicle, its age & mileage?

        thanks for your reply des8
yer i pay,d £1900 for the car, a Peugeot 308 (2008 model) and it had 73.000 miles on the clock. looking at the car it looked in great shape but i guess i should never judge a book by its cover. i took the car to robins & day Peugeot dealer like the seller asked me to do and got the diagnostics check but i don't think he was expecting me to come at him with there findings. he took the car to a garage he uses and claims they took over 7ltrs of oil from the engine and he has video evidence of this , this cant be true as i i only put 2ltrs of oil in when the warning light came on on two occasions. the seller also claims i have driven the car and added 800 to 1000 miles to the clock and im supposed to have done this in just about three weeks of use, no chance as i only do about 4000 miles a year since i passed my test 20yrs ago. im guessing the garage he uses has messed with the mileage and the oil but cant prove this.

Did you get a written report on the engine's condition from the Peugeot dealer who did the diagonistics?

yes i have that in writing along with all the other faults on the car, i sent the seller a copy but all he says is that main Peugeot dealers would put things like that on diagnostics and charge a harm and a leg for the repairs.

IMO you should initiate court action.
The trader isn't responding to you, so you have no alternative.
