  • Training costs

    Good evening,
I started a job on 8th March this year, i did 3 days in-house induction "training" this consisted of me sitting in a room looking through policies and procedures and on occasions thr manager and deputy manager came in to "train" us.
It was for a domincillary care company so the training was medication, handling and manouvering safeguarding adults and children. The deputy manager was training to deliver this in house training (by the manager) we were her guinea pigs!
I was then rosterrd down for communication training, that was being delivered by another carer employed by the company. During this training, the group i was in arrived on time yet the office had doible booked with new trainees and we started nearly 1 hour late so only had 1 hour training.
I was then booked onto a basic first aid course through an external company, i was not asked if i wanted to attend, it was put on my rota.
My question is, i hamded my notice in 3 weeks ago due to not being given the hours theu told me i could easily get, they were giving me 1-2 hours gaps between calls and they were miles away ( we did not get mileage if the gap was more than 50 mins and also for travel to 1st call or travel home from last call)
Looling at my wages each month i was spending double in petrol compared to mileage i was receiving.
My contract did state that should i leave within 0-6 months after training courses i would be expected to pay back 100% 6-12 months 50% now i am happy to payback the cost of my basic life support but should i be charged for the in house training by other carerd? They have deducted £300 from my wages, i have asked for a breakdown of costs but i cannot comprehend how they could charge me that much.

    Re: Training costs

Unfortunately the contract has not made it clear as to whether the requirement to pay back training costs covers "internal" as well as "external" courses. In my experience these types of clauses are usually to cover the costs of "external" courses. I would wait and see what information they provide you in terms of the breakdown of costs and then you will have a clearer idea of what training costs they are actually trying to recover.
