Exclamation Can a Bailiff come on to private land?

I've just had a bailiff to the door of my caravan which is currently in the middle of a private field, it is not a residential address or a business address, and not owned by me. He wasn't rude in any way and by the time I had managed to catch my dogs and calm them down he had gone.
Are bailiffs allowed to come onto privately owned land please? The owner of the land hadn't given them permission. Just very unnerving ! Its one thing to have a bailiff to a proper address, its quite another to have one turn up where you are camping in a friends field!

Do you have a proper address and how did bailiff know you were there?

He should be visiting the address given on the warrant. Do you know what type of debt is being enforced (court fine, council tax arrears, unpaid penalty charge notice etc)?

It is extremely odd that he should be able to identify that you own a caravan. Any idea how he could have located you?

No! I was so busy trying to catch the dogs and secure them away I don't know why he was here, I told him he was trespassing and he agreed, he'd gone by the time I sorted the dogs out.

He may have got the impression that the caravan was your permanent residence. If so, it would be considered exempt:

How do you know it was a bailiff? Did they leave any paperwork?

Is there any underlying debt to a previous address, are you currently technically homeless apart from the caravan? In any event even if the caravan was yours, if it is your home, the bailiff cannot take it into control and sell it, same for a campervan if you live in it as per Milo. Unless the field was on his paperwork as the address then yes he is a trespasser imho.
