Send off the two letters as has been said and then draw breath.
After that you need to send a Subject Access Request (with £10) to Lloyds the original creditor because that will provide you with the history of this debt. This will help you later on in the process.
The deadline for your Defence is 33 days (not 28 days) from the claim Issue Date.
Wait to see what comes back (or not) from your request letters before you start to consider what you should include in your Defence.
Personally I would never ask for an extension of time because it's good to get on with things. Put the Claimant under pressure while they haven't got the necessary documents. This makes it harder for them to reconstitute paperwork.
