  • Service not Provided

Little unusual this one. I live in a council flat which i have occupied now for over 12 years.

We pay a fortnightly charge for 'services' which includes maintenance, gardening and most importantly cleaning.

My issue is the cleaning. Dont get me wrong some of the people are a disgrace and do not help. However, we pay good money for the cleaning and it should be easily achievable and easily affordable. They actually receive enough money to afford 4 x full time cleaners with cash to spare.

Indeed for the first few years we did have a full time cleaner..

Since then the service has become ad hoc at best and has lead to one appearance in the local press for rats.

    It gets worse.

I have spent the last 2 years almost constantly complaining and being lied to fobbed off and waived at with spreadhseets.

They simply will not under any circumstances consider using clean water to mop a floor and for some reason cannot simply spray something and wipe off dirt.

When you enter the foyer of the building all you can smell is the absolutley disgusting refuse area which is behind 2 doors.

Their solution to that is an industrial strength air freshener which literally makes your eyes water.

It stinks because it is never cleaned. They are not allowed to use disinfectant because it might poison someone yet they have no problem spraying WD 40 on the stainless steel in the lifts.

I am at the stage where I have informed them that I will be claiming back every penny I have paid for my service charges through the court.

Advice Please if you would kind people.

Who supplies the cleaningservices is it the council? Sounds like a typical cash strapped council diverting the money to other projects.
It may be that a mass protest is necessary to bring the council to heel. If the cleaning is outsourced could theresidentsset up a managment company and runfn the services for themselves?

Well you could turn the tables and report the "absolutely disgusting refuse area" issue to the Council's Environmental Health Team since rats are a known health hazard.
