  • Debt collectors chasing ex at my address.

    Hi.
My husband left me in early 2015 and to my horror I have been getting letters from Banks and credit card companies saying he owes thousands to them. I had no idea he had run up these debts, although I knew we were having difficulties at that time.
I know I shouldn't have but I was opening his letters as I knew something was wrong. Once I found out about the debts I sent a letter to each company telling them that he no longer lived with me and that I had no idea about his debts or his whereabouts. I thought that would be enough! Each debt has now been sold on and Lowell Portfolio have now taken out a CCJ against him this week, even after I asked them to stop harrassing me when I heard they were going to do it.
Obviously I don't care what happens to him but I don't want them knocking at my door trying to take away goods that are mine, which will obviously happen I guess as he doesn't know he has this CCJ and it won't get paid. They said in a previous letter months ago that they knew he was at the address but obviously as he isn't they must be trying it on.
I told them that I had suffered with depression a few years back and I don't want to be dragged down again over someone else's debt. They haven't listened, in fact they didn't even reply!
I know in October when the first payment is missed that I will get a knock at the door. The others companies are probably lining up as I speak to do exactly the same too!
Does anyone know what I should do and can they come in and take my goods legally?
    Thanks.

Re: Debt collectors chasing ex at my address.

is your property jointly owned?? or rented, if joint ownership then they could get a Restriction charging order BUT only on his side not yours, they cannot sue you as the alledged debt not yours anyway? and debt letters to him return as left household and whereabouts unknown as we are separated and have been for some time? just a suggestion !!

But might help if they are all his debts you list on here who he owes and who is chasing him at your address, also if any are yours, peeps can then see the full picture and try and assist you and take a lot of pressure off you?

any letters you sent and their responses keep to-gether, once we know who they are and its your OHs debts then we can probably assist and let you know who to complain to about harassment once you have informed them his whereabouts is not known
