Small claims and magistrates are two different things. If it is small claims e.g. the County Court then you have a right to represent your friend, regardless of whether money is paid under The Lay Representatives (Rights of Audience) Order 1999. Provided your friend is attending along with you then all you need to do is explain to the court that you are acting on behalf of your friend under the Act. Might be best printing it off just in case (its only 1 page) but the Court cannot refuse this.

            Re: Court representation

It is a small claim issued by the county court being heard at the magistrates court as it was the nearest court for all parties but issued under the small claims track

              Re: Court representation

the case is has been issued under the interference of goods act i.e the separation of two unmarried individuals and the taking /removal of belongings from a joint rented accommodation they both lived in and the female had to leave due to unreasonable and threatening behaviour that then required the issuing of pin notices and harassment orders being made against the male party.

                Re: Court representation

If it is simply a county court sitting at the magistrates court, then R0b's post at #4 is correct.
