  • British Gas took over my account

    Good morning folk,

I never thought of being one to ask for advice, but $#it happens!:mad2:

In my emails today I received a "final Bill" from my electricity supplier (Extra Energy) and part of the bill was a charge for £25.00 as an exit fee because I terminated the contract.

I called Extra Energy and they told me that I switched to British Gas, hence the exit fee.

The problem is that I never switched to British Gas and never ever would consider them as a supplier even if they were the cheapest on the market.

Where do I go from here?:confused2:
The Black rat (Rattus rattus) is a common (hence the accusation of being Pleb) long-tailed rodent of the genus Rattus (rats) in the subfamily Murinae (murine rodents). The species originated in tropical Asia and spread through the Near East in Roman times (another thing that we ought to thanks the Romans for, besides roads, aqueducts and public toilets) before reaching Europe by the 1st century and spreading with Europeans across the world.

A mutation of the beast now comes black leather clad, riding a motorcycle that looks like a battenbergh cake on wheels.

A skilled predator, totally ruthless with it's prey, but also known to be extremely generous in doling out tickes that can provide points for motorists who want to downsize from mechanically propelled vehicles to bycicles.

It's a dirty job, but someone got to do it!

Have you told Extra Energy that you didn't arrange a transfer (and said you want them to transfer you back)??

From the Citizens Advice website (https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/co...our-agreement/) you could complain to either EE or BG
    What the supplier must do

They must cancel the transfer or arrange for the supply to be transferred back to your original supplier.
The supplier you complain to must also:
    • within 5 working days, write and tell you what action they’re going to take
    • within 20 working days, write to confirm your supply will be returned to your old supplier

This is called the ‘erroneous transfer customer charter’ and all suppliers must follow it. If they don’t, you should make a complaint.
You won’t have to pay any bills to the new supplier. You’ll continue to get bills from your original supplier as normal.
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

Have you moved to another supplier other than British Gas? Charges for termination are possibly unfair terms because they're effectively a penalty for leaving them but a quick look at their terms suggest you can switch with no exit fee on normal tariffs, its only non standard products (whatever that is)

To find out your current supplier you could contact the relevant authority which you can find here depending on your location http://www.energynetworks.org/info/f...-operator.html
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you

Hi Kati, when I called Extra Energy to query the "final bill" they just said to me that British Gas had taken over my account, I did inform the operator that I did not initiate the move, he just gave me BG phone number (0800 048 0202) and told me to speak to them, quoting my meter reference number.

To be truthful I do not see why I should speak to BG, in fact, I thought about it for a couple of days now, If they switched me without my authority I willnot pay their bills, I will set aside what my monthly direct debit is, so as not to struggle with a masssive bill when I goes back to EE, but BG can go a take a dive in a cesspool as far as am concerned.

          Hi Rob

I haven't been BG customer since 1993, moved to PowerGen then, eventually PowerGen became EON, in 2010 I moved to EDF and last year to Extra Energy. I only have electricity since the nearest gas mains is about 7 miles away.

I haven't got a problem with termination charges, I accepted that when I moved to EE fixed tariff until Jan 2017.

As I said in my reply to Kati, I have no intention of paying any money to BG, the next questions are:

          1) What happens if I refuse to pay BG, if and when they are going to send me a bill, which very likely is going to be on their standard tariff?
          2) Would Extra Energy give my bank account details to BG?
2)a If they did would that be a breach of the Data Protection Act?

I visited http://www.energynetworks.org/info/f...-operator.html, and they confirm that the supplier at my address is British Gas Trading.

I think that's it for now.

          Appreciate your help guys
