  • Fire Doors in 1st floor maisonette

    Hi
I am just looking for some advice on fire doors in a first floor maisonette

The hallway/landing which leads directly to the stairs has four door off it, bathroom, two bedrooms and the living room. You need to pass through the living room to get to the kitchen.

From looking at the doors I think that the bedroom and living room doors are fire doors ( they are heavier and solid compared to the kitchen door. I really can not tell with the bathroom door

My question is, if I replace them do they need to be firedoors and if so can I paint the existing doors to try and 'tart' them up a little. They are currently that wood look so common in household doors of the 70's and 80's

If they are fire doors you should have intumescent strips and cold smoke strips. The doors can be replaced Ed, there is a vast range of fire door designs but they can be expensive. Painting them is,fine .

      Thanks

The doors are the originals from the 1980 build , I assumed they were fire doors because of the weight as opposed to the hollow kitchen door. There are no strips down the sides so perhaps I am wrong.

Although by new standards you will need to have the doors checked and intumescent strips and cold smoke seals. If the fir officer from the local council is feeling officious s/he may insist on self closers as well . For your own safety make, sire that you have wired smoke alarms and battery back up if you can possibly afford them.
