  • Advice needed for puppy purchase please.

Hello, I'm new to this and couldn't find a thread related so here goes.
My wife and I purchased a puppy 2 weeks before Christmas. We bought her from a lady who owned a pub. Her dogs had apparently had puppies and she was selling them, all seemed fine. We weren't worried about pedigree/KC and all that, we just wanted a puppy.
On the second night Wednesday(the puppy) started having seizures. We took to the emergency vet for treatment. They speculated on the many things it could be but no one really had an answer. Wednesday was given drugs to control her fits which they kind of did. We contacted the breeder to explain what had happened and were told that none of the other puppies had had any problems. When we asked for help with the bills we had no reply.
That was 4 months ago and Wednesday has had ups and downs. Our new vet recommended a CT scan to find out exactly what the problem was. Wednesday has Porencephaly which is an extremely rare BIRTH DEFECT. In the specialist's opinion she would've been having seizures from birt, however the breeder stated in the email that she'd had no problems with her.
The basis of my question really is this; do we have grounds to take this woman to court to try and recoup some, if not all, of the £2,500 we have spent on vet's bills in the last 4 months?
Thankyou in advance for any assistance.

Hi MrPawsey & welcome to LB

    Was the sale advertised?
If so, did you keep a copy of the advert?
Is the pub owner a dog breeder, or was it a 'one-off'?

      Thanks charity.
The sale was advertised on Pets4Homes, we reported it to them at the time. My wife kept a copy of the ad on her phone, she is now looking back through to find it. She also has sms correspondence with the breeder. I believe the pub owner is a breeder but not officially. Her dog has had 3 litters and all have been sold from what we can gather. I know it looks like we didn't do our homework and we probably didn't but she did seem genuine at the time of purchase, it was just a case of "My dog's had puppies so I'm selling them."

      Thanks again for reply.
