David Cameron: Accept the FOI Comission's recommendation to extend Freedom of Information to private companies

To David Cameron, Prime Minister and Matthew Hancock, Cabinet Minister
    Petition text

Please listen to the advice of your Independent Freedom of Information Commission and extend FOI laws to cover private companies delivering public services. We deserve the right to know what anyone who spends public money is up to.
    Why is this important?

More and more of our precious public services are being contracted out to private companies who are driven by profit. Right now we have no right to know what they're up to.

Transparency laws cover our NHS, but they dont cover companies like Serco or Virgin Healthcare who are delivering vital services - they're caring for the elderly and most vulnerable in our society but right now we have no idea what they're up to.

The majority of the public want transparency laws extended to include private companies running public services. Now this has been backed by the government's own expert advisors. It's time for the government to extend our Freedom of Information laws to private companies.

    Signed - Oh, btw,
    Transparency laws cover our NHS,
The laws might be in place but there is a fair amount of smoke and cloak in practice!
