  • Dwf and sainsburys

Hi, I was caught shoplifting in sainsburys. Was banned for life etc. security wanted ID so I wrote my address down and showed them an invoice on my phone. I wrote my correct address but gave them an invoice to my old address ( same street different number) hoping they wouldn't notice as I just wanted to go. Anyway, I left and have just received my dwf letter claimin £150 for security costs. Due to the address anomaly they have addressed it to my street with no number and have got my last name wrong on it (it's similar) it came through my letter box and had been opened and some one had wrote 'try 36' on the front. This suggests that it went through the wrong door and someone read it. I have no intention of paying these jokers but was wondering have they breached some data protection laws and do they have even less of a leg to stand on as I am not officially the person they wrote to? Thanks

I wouldn't bother wasting time going after them for some possible breach.
To do that would only confirm your address, and enable them to redouble their efforts to recover their fanciful security costs.
Try blacking out "try 36" and mark envelope "improperly addressed...addressee unknown......return to sender"
    Or continue to ignore.

We don't often see DWF on this forum. so is there any chance you could post up the letter suitably redacted, just for interest?

      Hi.....
If you are finally contacted directly by dwf, addressed to your proper name and address, and if you do feel that you must respond, please do ask for a breakdown of the 'security costs'.

I would love to see such a breakdown.......

Apologies, I've been off the radar. So I ignored them and got 4 letters in total then they gave up all stating we may take you to court, we may seize your assets etc. bunch of jokers!
