  • Handing in Notice

    Morning All,

I have a new job offer to start on 5th January. Is it possible to hand my notice in today (notice period is 4 weeks), but extend it and say that I would like to continue working up until the 4th January.

Also, I take it this doesn't affect my right to paternity leave and that I can take this as and when the baby is born in December?

How much holiday have you got left? You could use this to add to your period of notice.

7 days, but the holiday year is April to March to if I took them they would just take it back out of my final pay packet?

Any holiday you have left should be paid, or should be added to your final pay packet. You are getting paid for holidays aren't you?

Calculate how much holiday you are due https://www.gov.uk/calculate-your-holiday-entitlement and work from there

Checked that out, but what I'm saying is that I have 24 days holiday to take between April and the end of the following March.

Up to now, I have used 17 out of the 24 days, so if I hand my notice in today or in the next couple of weeks then surely I wouldn't be able to claim the money for these extra days as they would be in excess of where I am in the year meaning that if I did take them then the cost of them would be claimed back out of my last pay packet?
