Will i get a letter from the RLP?

So, recently i started following a friends stupid habit, I was caught shoplifting £18 worth of sweets from Iceland, the goods were in resell able condition . The day before I shoplifted £14 worth of sweets. Those were long gone. I was taken to a room and put the things on the table. The security guard made me aware that they know about yesterday and the police is on their way. I offered to pay for all he declined. He took pictures of me and a friend then took down our addresses called our parents and school. The police arrived and asked us if we had been in trouble with the police before and neither of us had. They decided to pass on the case to a school police officer and I have an interview on Wednesday . I heard the police officer and the guard talking outside and the guard mentioned civil recovery. Does this mean I will get a letter from the RLP? I didn't receive a hand out , didn't sign anything and wasn't told anything involving the RLP and civil recovery, I only knew due to eavesdropping .

At school I was also taken back and apologised to the manager and he seemed happy about the apology.

Have a look round the RLP section of the forum and you'll soon discover our thoughts on RLP :nod: ... if you do get a letter, the best thing to do is ignore them!

You mention that you are at school. Can you tell me how old you are?

Hi and welcome to LB.
As Kati as already said if RLP do write to you, ignore them.
Obviously we do not condone shoplifting, but neither do we condone businesses setting themselves up as judge, jury and enforcers!
Hopefully you have the support of your parents, who also might receive a letter from RLP spouting all sorts of legalese about parental responsibilities
and "requesting" a donation to RLP's funds.
If (when) this happens refer your parents to this thread if you feelit will be of help.

Now put this behind you and get on with your school work

Rabbit12345:- From distant memory I seem to recall that there are certain groups of people that Retail Loss Prevention and most other civil recovery firms do not pursue.
They may have changed their policies, but to pursue the very old, the very young, the very ill, etc can only plunge them into even deeper muddy waters than they already swim in!

However, if they do write to your parents they can only seek costs incurred! It;'s no good them trying to say that the Security Guard's time cost £50 if he/she was only with you for 45 minutes @ circa £8.00 per hour. How long did the manager spend with you? It's no good RLP trying to charge for the manager's visit to your school..... that journey was in Iceland considerable benefit as a mass deterrent.

Importantly, you offered to pay for all the sweets, and the store turned down your offer, so if the sweets ever got put on a breakdown of costs ...then it would nmeed questioning.... etc.

Requests for costs breakdowns are always an embarrassment for civil recovery companies because they try to add CCTV costs, Article Surveillance costs etc etc to the breakdown, which makes them look really dodgy...... the costs, that is!

I don't think that it is in Iceland's or RLP interests to pursue children, or their parents, so let's see if I am right.

Point 2 is also worth noting as it admits the parents cannot be sued or made to pay.
They break the DPA by writing to the parents on the grounds they are concerned the child may not be aware of their rights.
In this case of course that excuse won't wash as the parents are already aware.

It would be nice to complain about RLP, but I doubt anyone being hounded by them would want the added stress

Mugwumps! The Human Rights Act is only applicable to Public Bodies, isn't it?
Anyway, since that perception actually helps in this case, it's just a matter of whether small claims can be taken out against children. I need to do some self educating there....

OP - IF you get anything from RLP ignore it. If your parent's get anything from RLP - ignore it ( or tell them to come on here and have a good read about RLP , and then ignore it )

I m 32 and yesterday has been accused for stealing £2 band from Primark. I m so so guilty for doing such a nuisance. I was caught by security guard and was asked to gv my name and address. I gave it all correct but only I changed the house nos. Then he asked for I'd proof, which I was not carrying. They told me to leave the shop and said I m banned from the store. After that the security guard of town ascorted me half the way home and said never do it again. I gave sincere apologies to all and said will not repeat in future. They didn't mention any fine or anything about letter. Am I going to receive any top from them???

just begging letters - IN ENGLISH == IGNORE they cannot fine you only a court could if ever they were silly enough to try???
