  • Restons Solicitors Limited Who are they?

I have just started to receive letters from Restons Solicitors regarding a debt and I just wanted to hear from members about what kind of animal they are. So far I have discovered that Restons Solicitors appear to be a major player in the Debt Collection Industry.

Restons Solicitors are an Affiliate member of the CSA (voice of the collections industry) which means Debt Collection is one of their main activities and their entry states

…. we assist a number of market leaders in the finance and debt purchase sectors with both their secured and unsecured collections. Integral to the successful handling of our volume collections activity (over 70,000 live actions at any time) is the advice and support we offer to our clients on all aspects of recoveries, including the most complex CCA regulation issues. A fundamental understanding of commercial, reputational and compliance issues together with a focused, proprietary interest in our clients’ receivables means that Restons continue to excel in terms of recoveries, client satisfaction and complaint avoidance.

Wow, powerful company! They seem to deal with debts from the likes of Northern Rock, Cabot Financial, Marlin, ArrowGlobal, MBNA, Lloyds, TSB, Barclays, RBS, Natwest, HSBC to name but a few and they seem to be very successful in going for County Court Claims and getting CCJs and Charging Orders.

I must admit I am deeply shocked about what I have read online about Restons Solicitors to the point that they seem invincible and seem to be using questionable legal tactics and Debt Collection practices.

From what I have read so far they seem to operate in a different way to normal Debt Collection Companies which led me to an article by Nicholas Wilson who exposed a fraud concerning HSBC in which Restons Solicitors and another solicitor firm are implicated.

    Read this first. http://bsnews.info/death-drugs-and-h...orld-go-round/

Then go and check out Nicholas Wilson's blog "Mr Ethical" which makes interesting reading.

Shocking!! Restons Solicitors were adding illegal collection charges!! Which may explain why Restons Solicitors are different from other DCAs?

If you look at their website https://www.restons.co.uk/index.php?id=41 you will see that their have recruited Duncan Hamilton who was a senior Lawyer at HSBC/HFC and now deals with Restons Compliance issues. Read all about him and Christopher John Reston below very important.

I will leave you all to draw your own conclusions!!

Sadly by doing the right thing, it has taken a toll on Nicholas' personal life and health so I hope members may be able to support him as he is still actively campaigning.

Re: Restons Solicitors Limited Who are they?

It's okay we're well aware of Restons, their collection charge ( I had the pleasure of having to fight one off) (nb. the collection charges stopped in 2010 after the OFT rapped their knuckles) and Nicholas Wilson xx

Restons weren't adding illegal collection charges btw - unfair yes, unenforceable yes, but not illegal.

Do you have a claim against you from a company using Restons as their solicitors ? We know they do rather like to try for charging orders over your property, so it is best to deal with the claim, before it happens. So if you have a preaction letter its a good idea to respond to ask for documentation, particularly the credit agreement.

I think I can resolve the problem without needing to through the courts as I have fended off other DCAs. I was just shocked to read about the way they operate and I wanted a member perspective. So thanks for comment. Not illegal but unfair, didn't quite get that from Nicholas' blog. I can't seem to find anything positive about them!!

You could go so far to say unlawful - as they were penalty charges.

Well if you want any support if they do start court proceedings just give us a shout xx There's quite a lot of threads on here dealing with Restons - they aren't the easiest and much depends on the original debt.

I will see how I get on. This site is amazing and very informative which is why put the post up. I'll be signing the N244 petition and depending on how I get on with Restons I will be back. At the moment I just wanted to know what sort of fight I will have to put up to exercise my legal rights. I am putting together info based on the many tips I have gleaned so far from this site. Thank you again. Not sure if I posted this thread in the right forum?

Your first post yes, but if you do move on to a formal letter before action you'll want to be in http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...-a-Court-Claim

Thanks for signing my petition Sadly it's something most people don't care about until they are affected, but every little helps xxx

Re: Restons Solicitors Limited Who are they?

I may be naive, but after reading Nicholas Wilson's blog it amazes me how the Finance Industry has created a corrupt system where they want us to get into debt so that they can feed all these DCA's like Restons and then keep growing and growing. On Tuesday I read an article in the Evening Standard by Simon Read Twitter @simonread

              http://www.standard.co.uk/business/m...-a3110951.html

which just perpetuates the problem even more.

Which is why signing the N244 petition is important otherwise we will never be able to defend ourselves if Legal Fees puts us off from exercising our basic rights and will be captive to the Banks. All I know is that after I have dealt with Restons the only Bank I am going to rely on is Piggy. If I haven't got it then I can't spend it. And finally, unbelievable but in researching Restons I found that there is even Award Ceremonies for these companies!! http://www.credittoday.co.uk

It's not just the CSA that hands out awards there's quite a few self congratulatory jollies every year black tie and all that.

I'm surprised to see you saying this about Restons charges. I reported Weightmans to the SRA because of the charges and the SRA upheld my complaint that the charges were contingency fees. Contingency fees were illegal.
