      Ha ha!
That was such a dreadful observation rule........
Then 'they' added an 'A' ....ASCONE for 'approach (to item), selection, concealment, observation unbroken, no payment offered, exit. Horrible!

The properly trained rule goes more like this:-

approach, selection, 'criminal action', observation unbroken, no payment offered, exit.

actions that would show a court that an appropriation was 'criminal' go something like this, but the whole rule is very very detailed in a pro-training course:

      approach, selection.... then........
      conceal..... or
run, as in 'grab and run'
deceive, as in 'I bought this down the road, yesterday, etc'
bulk, as kin picking up a 50" telly and just walking out with it (oh yes!)
      threaten, as in robbery.......
massive quantity, as in a whole trolley of goods pushed out of shop
      .......... oh.... it goes on.
In fact there are 10 actions other than concealment that can show a court that an appropriation was dishonest............

SCONE is 'stone age' training........... honest, and yet some security guards only know just that rule.... sad.
