  • neighbour using my address

    Hi,
I'm looking for some advice about a letter I have received addressed to a neighbour, but to my address.
I've received several of these over the last few months, and reposted them through his letterbox.
On this one, I have managed to see that it is from a debt collecting agency, and a Google search on the return PO box# shows its from a company in Liverpool.
I'd like to know what should I do about this, could it be fraudulent, and would it affect my credit rating as the debt collecting agency has my address.
    Thanks for any advice.

Send any further letters back return to sender? Or contact all the companies telling them the correct address?

Hi it would be worth checking credit files Noddle is free online to see if this has been linked to you and or the address,
What is the difference between the two addresses?

Do you both have the same postcodes?

Hi yes we have the same postcode, and our house numbers are only a digit out, 22 to 24. The neighbour at 23 said that she'd had a car purchased by this person, registered to her address about 10 months ago.
          Thanks

Think you should send letters back to sender with the correct address and inform them this person does not live there will not affect your credit at all

and possibly talk to the police about what your neighbour's doing too

                Re: neighbour using my address

Something similar happened to this address around ten years back. We started to receive bumf about credit cards addressed to a woman who purportedly stayed at this address and post code. She never had, as the previous owner was the first owner in a new building and the name was totally different from this woman's. All I could do was send the letters back with a covering letter stating that we had no knowledge if this person. Then more started arriving with the same house number but a slightly different postal code. I cannot imagine what this person was hoping to achieve. They eventually stopped.

                  Update.
I spoke to the debt recovery agency who confirmed that the debt was related to my address, but they would not confirm the name on the debt, but they did say they'd update their detail for their case number. I also spoke to the police and they said to report it to action - fraud. This is something I'll do tomorrow as I was in a queue for over an hour until their service closed at 18.00
