Ok, so how did you get the account in the first place?
How much have you paid since you had the account?
Do you know all the benefits and are you double covered ie have mobile phone insurance already? Or perhaps you don't even drive a car so cannot take advantage of the benefit...

You might have had an account called "Advantage Gold" before that.

You need to give us more info so we can help you but help you we certainly can

          Hi yes
Opened 2012 was paying £8 a month was promised mobile insurance , car insurance with green flag breakdown, travel insurance , identity theft cover , taste card. Can't find the paperwork. It increased 2013 to £10 again no notification of the increase I only noticed this the other day . I didn't use any of the benefits. I just had a current account as was upgraded as I was told I needed it as I was in university . I didn't have a car aswell! I've been pushed to get the next package account and was humiliated at the welcome desk when I told her I didn't need it as back then I didn't have a car. I passed my test and had to pay out twice for car insurance and mobile insurance and travel insurance as when I tried to claim i was told I wasn't covered! Paid around £400 into the account so far .i got it as I said they told me I needed it when I went back for my postgraduate course 'adult account' I didn't want it and I told them I didn't need it, but the lady was telling me how I was saving a lot just to pay £8 . Even though she knew I had nothing to insure minus a phone which was already insured . I can't believe they increased it to £10 and didn't tell me. I didn't contact natwest yet as I didn't know where I stood? What could I claim for? The refund for the £400 plus 8% interest? Can I claim anything else I.e paying insurance elsewhere as they didn't cover me?
Any help would be great! Cheers

Why were you not offered a student account if you were a university student?

Why did you pay out twice for car insurance? That does not make sense since car insurance is not part of the deal. Why were you ineligible to claim for car insurance/ mobile insurance and travel insurance? That means that you knew you had the account but what was the response?

Paid around £400 into the account so far .i got it as I said they told me I needed it when I went back for my postgraduate course 'adult account' I didn't want it and I told them I didn't need it, but the lady was telling me how I was saving a lot just to pay £8 .
Pushy sales person but was your postgraduate account eligible for the graduate account? Did the lady show you on paper how you would save based on your specific set of circumstances or simply said, you will save money for just £8 per month?

Was there any benefit that you actually had? Did you register your phone for the insurance?
Did you ever try to use the travel insurance and why were you turned down if you made a claim?
Did you have a car when you first took out the policy and did you have breakdown coverage over the period of time you drove?

                hiya,
no i was not offered a graduate account i just went in to put cash in my current account and she kept telling me how i was going to save with £8 a month. she told me to go to the office just to see the paperwork on how it will save me money. as a student i thought i'd be saving from what she showed me. silly me!
no i had no benefit, i didn't register anything as my phone was already insured with carphone warehouse. when i tried to cancel my package i was told NO 'again infront of everyone humiliated as she said 'go pass your driving test'. :tinysmile_cry_t: my package did include breakdown and car insurance that's what she said.
i didnt have a car when i took it out all i had was a phone already insured! i tried to cancel it as this was no use to me. the breakdown . i was turned down with claiming car and travel insurance as i was told i wasnt covered to where i was going or my car.
i wasnt really given much info. i dont really know where i stand?
                thanks

Re: Packaged natwest account re claim help

In that case write a letter to the bank telling them the chronology of what happened. What you need to emphasize is the fact that you were a postgraduate student but was not offered the appropriate account, that whilst she went through a series of benefits, many of them were not beneficial at all. In fact, you should state you tried to cancel it but was told to "go pass your test".

The car insurance/travel insurance was not fit for your needs and you were ineligible for the cover.

I need to know why you were turned down for car insurance and travel insurance as I don't get how you may not have been covered.

One more thing I need to know is whether you have now downgraded the account to a current account with no fees?
Include in any letter the fact that you already had cover in place because this is important to cover the aspect of double coverage.

There may have been advantages on the overdraft so, were you within your overdraft? If the answer is yes then we are still working on the basis of misselling due to the account being not fit for your needs PLUS more importantly you were a postgraduate so the graduate account might have been a better account.

Two final questions(I worked for natwest for 10 years in Student branches so I know the grad account fairly well ).
                  1) Were you a UK resident student ie not from overseas who paid tuition fees themselves?
                  2) Was the postgraduate course full time ie not Open University or part time?

If the answer is yes to the above questions then the graduate account was the most appropriate account(I'd actually say the student account because you would probably have qualified for that account).

                    Hello
I was turned down for car insurance as it was never on the plan! And travel insurance was not covering where I went was outside Europe but again that wasn't mentioned . So had to cover myself again elsewhere .
I was a uk student and doing a health course full time at university in West Midlands , where I paid no fees! I didn't have an overdraft wasn't offered that. All I was offered was the £8 a month benefits .
I haven't down graded as when I tried I was refused. And I didn't know where I stood with claiming back anything so I want to close it now with te letter I write.
                    Cheers

What was the exact course? And yes the fees going up and double coverage are important as well.
This is the account so did you use any of the benefits and were you asked about travelling further afield away from Europe?
                        http://personal.natwest.com/personal...r-account.html

Ok the criteria for the student account(apart from paying in £750 per 6 months) is here: To apply you must be aged 17 or over, a permanent UK resident (ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years or more) & completing a full-time undergraduate course that lasts at least 2 years; completing a full-time post-graduate course; or training as a nurse, at a UK university or college of higher education.

Do you qualify for the account?

If the answer is yes at the time you were sold the account then you have been missold the account that you have/had.

Please write to the bank on the basis that it was not fit for purpose and that when you had thought about it, the bank customer service body abused you which meant that you did not feel you could query the account. Then go through the benefits and state in a chronological order how it was not fit for you. Breakdown coverage but no car.
Mobile phone insurance yet already covered.
Travel insurance yet you go outside Europe.
Did you book through their booking service?(or even know about it).
Did you use any of the benefits of the account whatsoever?(travel money perhaps??)

I can't see car insurance there but if there was breakdown cover, did you have cover paid for when you did drive? If you did then there is another double coverage which means that the account was poorly missold, not fit for your purpose and ultimately, missold.

Over to you to write the letter and reclaim all fees and ask for the account to be downgraded to a non fee paying account if you have not done so already.

yes i would qualify for the student account as i was training to be a health professional midwifery, i already trained as nurse and was not offered the account then. so i feel i was misold
i was not told about the travel insurance not covering africa. i did not use anything as it didnt benefit me. i was sent the taste card but was not told it was part of the account , as it was added on at some point. i had to pay breakdown with my insurance company.
yes i will write to them. how long do i need to wait for a reply? if not do i contact anyone? is there a sample letter?
also would i be able to claim for the fact i had double coverage?

To be honest, keep all correspondence in writing and we need to know whether you were a student BEFORE they upgraded you or not because you can certainly argue a failure to provide an account that was adequate for your needs.
