  • Fixed term contract renewal

Good morning, I am currently employed on a 3 month fixed term contract with a public sector organisation. This is coming to an end and may be extended but I no longer wish to continue. I have been looking for further work throughout the whole contract as it was made clear at interview that extension may not be on the cards but have found nothing. Will I be able to claim JSA or will I have made myself voluntarily unemployed if they contract is extended and I decline to take them up?

    Re: Fixed term contract renewal

Why would you wish to not continue, when you know you have no other job to go to?

Your best course of action, unless your having issues at work (in which case tell us as we can probably help resolve them), would be to accept the extension and continue to seek alternative employment. You may still resign once you find alternative employment. You will also have the benefit of being on a wage rather than on benefits where your not forced to receive any JSA as a result of refusing an offer of employment (i.e. contract extension)
Please note that this advice is given informally, without liability and without prejudice. Always seek the advice of an insured qualified professional. All my legal and nonlegal knowledge comes from either here (LB),my own personal research and experience and/or as the result of necessity as an Employer and Businessman.

By using my advice in any form, you agreed to waive all rights to hold myself or any persons representing myself of any liability.

If you PM me, make sure to include a link to your thread as I don't give out advice in private. All PMs that are sent in missuse (including but not limited to phishing, spam) of the PM application and/or PMs that are threatening or abusive will be reported to the Site Team and if necessary to the police and/or relevant Authority.

I don't wish to work there any longer as I get the shifts nobody else will do and the jobs that nobody else wants to do. Instead of these being shared out between everyone they have been given to me. Some of the shift patterns do not comply with good practice or employment law. I have complained and got nowhere. I have now signed on with an agency and should be starting work next week in any case.

Can you elaborate on this please "Some of the shift patterns do not comply with good practice or employment law"?

I don't wish to elaborate. I don't work there any more and will not work in that organisation again.

Quite properly then you will not get any helpful advice.

Advice is no longer required as I have removed myself from the organisation and secured work elsewhere so my question no longer requires an answer.

OK ... in all fairness, the Beagles who had answered on this thread were asking you to expand on your first post in order to offer you the best advice they could on your circumstances. As you have made it quite clear that you no longer need advice on this matter I am closing the thread.

Feel free to contact me via PM if you require it re-opened at any point, and good luck in your new job.
