  • Real rate of unemployment

Not a day passes without Daily Mail and other Tory papers headlining how great things are, how unemployment is down and the austerity is working.

Yet, thinking about myself, many friends and people I know - such as local business owners - things seem to be less rosy, if not actually getting worse!

Maybe unemployment is down but what about under employment? With rise of zero hour contracts - sorry Mr Cameron - flexible working it looks like many people aren't getting enough hours and are actually on low paid or minimum wage jobs, only able to live due to social security benefits.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but things aren't looking good.

    Re: Real rate of unemployment

Lies, damned lies and statistics..... Austerity isn't working, never could..... For a start the government quotes the fact that we are the fastest growing major economy.. But we are starting from a smaller base than say Germany... 100 percent of nothing is nothing..
Also, we can't really export a lot of of economic output, demand for our Estate Agents not that strong in China.... Then there are the Unemployed... Well the figures don't show those shunted off on to long term sickness, those who simply are not signed on, those who are 'retired' those who can't sign on etc etc..... I can jimmy the stats any way the Government like, they really should pay me....
The figures to look at, the ones that can't be fixed easily are ones such as Balance of Trade.. That is what we actually produce that the world wants... Funnily enough they have got a lot worse under this government.
There is one major growth industry, and I take my hat off to the government, it really has flourished under them... Soup Kitchens/Food Banks
