Hi I have been a customer with brighthouse for a year now we get 300 a fortnight on esa because my husband is disabled we are paying 167 a fortnight to brighthouse my husbands health has got worse we missed 2 payments then started to get knocks on door from brighthouse everyday I spoke to the bloke Wednesday he said I had to give back some stuff but not the computer as it's nearly paid for or pay 70 by Saturday otherwise I'll be taken to court my brother made that payment for me but they said I had to make the normal 167 payment Monday but we are unable to I know I owe the money I will pay but they won't take less now I'm thinking off letting them take me to court to get payments reduced is this a better option

How long have you been paying for the items separately - are any (or all) of them paid up to over 1/3 of the total cost?
1, If they are over 1/3 paid, BHwould have to get a court order to get them back (they are 'protected' after 1/3 is paid off).
2, If they are not over 1/3 paid, BH would still have to get a court order to re-possess the goods (and they cannot force entry to your property either

Have a look at your agreement(s) find out how much you have paid off each item ...

Also, have you got Optional Service Cover on your goods (these are 'extra' insurance payments on top of your weekly payment for the items)?
    if yes:
1, Did you actually need it? - are you insured through your normal house insurance etc...
2, Were you given the option of taking it or not (asked if you have house/contents insurance)?

You can also ask to cancel the insurance if you have it to enable the payments to reduce

Not what it says on here

TerminationYou can terminate your Optional Service Cover at any time on giving 7 days’ notice to BrightHouse. Your Optional Service Coveris renewable each time your payment is due. If the amount due is not paid the Optional Service Cover will lapse

according to BH themselves OSC is optional

I'd strongly suggest that you write to them giving the 7days 'notice' of your cancellation ... it would drastically reduce your payments!!

How long are each of your contracts meant to run? Am I right in thinking that (usually) they are about 2yrs altogether? If so ... you have paid over 1/3 of those that are over a year old
