  • Scaffolders erect a set of scaffolding

i recently had a set of scaffolding erect in St leonards on sea near hastings , south coast. This scaffolding goes up and over a building ( my neighbours for which i have had permission. ) We have been using a electrcial hoist to get the render down to the ground and new sand cement mix up to the top of the building. the scaffolder was kind enough to get the original hoist machine on to the scaffolding. However recently it broke down. Now after letting me down once, and now recently telling me that they are doing me a favour by going about puttting the new machine back up however.. AS they are over worked they are slow to get the new working machine back on the scaffolding. ( he was the cheapest company ) I have tried all the scaffolding in the south east,, however most say just try the original scaffolders. i have sent them a mail as of last week and one of the contacts has stated that he is doing me a favour ,, as you don't need a special ticket to put the machinery up their. And my worker eg builder and labour should be able to do it themselves..

I am pretty stuck, i really need the scafffolders to get the new hoist onto the scafffolding.. all other scaffolders will not want to touch it.. As their is a risk to put something on scaffolding that not their own scaffolding. Plus all are too busy..

i am considering threatening to put bad reviews As i have a exposed gable wall and chimney open to the elements , however this is a negative and not a path that is fruitful..As i have already sent worker from london to the job and lost money sending them as their was a no show by the scaffolders already
also the builder i am using is leaving in 10 working days to move to wales.. so i really need them to do it soon.

Any ideas on what i can do ... i am waiting to get logged on the scafffolders forum and also advertising on gumtree for someone to help.

Re: Scaffolders erect a set of scaffolding

If putting the machine in place was simply done as a favour, and definately not as part of the actual scaffolding contract, then at first glance, you are unlikely to have any call on them.

That said, what was the arrangement regarding getting it down again? Presumably, when the job was finished they would take down their scaffolding and the machine with it. If that is the case, then you might argue that they have accepted responsibility.

Even when removed, who will get the replacement up there? The scaffolder is now unlikely to do it. Frankly, you best bet is to ask the builder, or his replacement.
