  • SERCO Surrenders Health Service Contract

SERCO has surrendered its contract to provide the out of hours doctor service in Cornwall over 17 months before its expiration after the standard of the service it was providing was found wanting. It was found that performance figures had been manipulated to show there had been more call-outs than had actually taken place. This follows hot on the heels of the decision not to renew SERCO's offender tagging contract with the Ministry of Justice.

Taking account of Collectica's employees telling porkies about fine defaulters to HMCTS and HMCTS finding out about it, it would not surprise me in the least, Cloggy. I did make mention of this to a senior officer at HMCTS a few weeks ago when discussing the use of private sector bailiff companies to collect unpaid court fines with them. So, who knows, the HMCTS contract could be next, followed by local authority contracts. SERCO took over the catering and cleaning contract at a hospital near to where I live and started throwing their weight about, demanding the WRVS be evicted from the tea bars around the hospital. The hospital management very quickly told SERCO to get back in their box and stick to cleaning the place and cooking meals for in-patients, as their contract dictated.
