  • employer asking for personal financial details.

I recently received a form from the ministry of defence asking me for further information from a security clearance form I had completed. I hadn't personally filled a form in, but have since found out that my employer had completed it on behalf of myself.
This security clearance is for working as a sub contractor on certain MOD sites.
The form is asking me for all details of my personal finances. Mortgage, credit cards, ccjs, bank accounts, bankruptcies etc.
A couple of other lads who have been cleared never received this second form.
I don't see why I should have to fill this form in, as to me, its personal financial information. can my employer make me fill it in? thanks in advance.

    Hi billywhizz,
It is reasonable for the vetting process for you to supply financial information for you and sometimes your partner, especially if there has been a change in your circumstances recently. Most of your questions can be answered by reading here> https://www.gov.uk/security-vetting-and-clearance

Please read the information linked and if you have any further questions come back and ask. In order for your employer to place you on an MOD site, they have to supply this information.

Thought so after all if a person was deep in debt and had access to confidential info they could in theory be blackmailed this is why policemen habe to be careful with their finances.
In this day and age I think all the info requested could be obtained quite easily?

Having been security-cleared by the MoD myself, the reason for the information will depend on the type of establishment you will be working in and the areas to which you will have access. There are different levels of clearance. Do you know which establishment it is you will be working in?
