  • Urgent Help Needed - Tax Credits and Overpayments

I have received notification of overpayments over the last 3 years. The 2013/14 by letter the others over the phone!

    2011/12 - £4076
    2012/13 - £5500
2013/14 - £1100 (stopped claim due to change in circumstances)

I didn't complete my renewal a mistake that I am living to regret and as I was subject to my 3rd childcare investigation in a row they have decided that all of my childcare payments need paying back and I was not entitled to any of them.

The previous 2 investigations went smoothly, to make sure I didnt get overpaid gave them permission to check the tax office records for my income and they contacted my childcare providers for my childcare expenses. So they did and do have the correct information.

To cut a very long story short I found this out over the phone nearly 3 weeks ago and at that point completed the renewal and sent a complaint letter along with an appeal to the HMRC and contacted my local MP.

Today I received 2 overpayment letters for the £4K & £5.5K (I already had the other one) dated the 28th October wanting payment by 7th December. I contacted the "Helpline" and would have had more joy phoning the talking clock! It would appear that my complaint was only logged a week ago and my appeal has reached the chief executives office on 28th October the same date as the letters.

I was told that my complaint and appeal could take until the middle of February to sort out and that I should start making payments in the meantime. They want a minimum of £90 a month for the next 10 years and to be blunt at this present moment I would be lucky to have 90p to rub together a month.

I feel sick, I cannot concentrate at work and could burst into tears I just dont know what to do and wonder if anyone ever has any success when appealing against the HMRC and Tax Credit Office?
