  • Help for my Mum please!!!!

    Hello,

My mum has just got a job at M&S, earning £6.63 per hour on a 19.5 hr per week contract. Therefore, this makes it £517.14 per month, and £6205.68 per annum.

Please can someone help me explain the following to her:

    - This is her only income. Will she need to pay tax on it? The yearly amount is below the personal allowance.
    - She is single and lives alone. Myself and my brother are in our 20s, so no dependants. Can she claim any benefits to bump up her income?

    Many thanks,
    K.

Hi and welcome, you can check if your mum may be entitled to any benefits on here http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

Here is the info about personal allowance http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/it.htm.

Your mum may not have a tax code initially so she may well pay tax at first until her correct code is sorted, but will get everything back if she has over paid.
