  • Part Time work

    Hi

I was wondering if i could get some advice please. My contract states that i have 21 and a half hours per week. I have worked with the company since August 2010 and i have worked full time off and on (mainly on)
I have asked if they would consider me going full time but the bosses flat out refuse. In the 3 yrs i have been here there was a lady after me working almost a year full time employed and she was here for around 7 months then i went back to full time when she applied for a transfer. Then another lady was employed again she was here around 10 months then she applied for a transfer so i have now been working full time again since 25Th March this year.

I was told that if you had worked for 6 months full time then i can apply legally to go full time? Is this true? Where does it state that is so and what rules apply to that law?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

You have been told wrong I am afraid. You have a contract, that contract states your hours, and anything above that is not guaranteed. Basic contract law - this is what you agreed with your employer and until you both agree differently then this is how it remains. Sorry, but you cannot force your employer to give you a full-time contract.

Oh ok it was just that one of my bosses had told the lady who left that's who i had heard it from.

      Thanks anyway.

I was hoping i could get more advice on this. I recently learned that the poster was maybe not who they claimed to be who gave me advice. That being said the advice still may be right but as i would very much like to have full time hours that i have worked for the last 6 months i was hoping that she was maybe wrong?

        Thank you.

          Hi astraldream

I don't know the back-story regarding the poster, but the content is spot on, AFAIK.

From my own experience, I agree that it is about the Contract and as such, they are doing nothing wrong.
