    Mate of mine didnt send in self assessment form for year ending 2011 as he had year off work due to suffering heart attacks now hmr are chasing him for £1700 late payment fine, is there anyway he can get out of this or does this have to be paid, he only restarted his business jan of this year and not got any spare cash to pay off this fine, any advice be grateful thank you

    He can appeal the forms are on the HMRC website

      Was there a reason he could not file them? I appreciate you mention MI's but that in itself will not be sufficient unless he can furnish proof he was incapacitated.
