          Re: Strange email failed deliveries?

i had this harmless little trojan in my hotmail account

it got into my contacts folder and sent everyone an offer to buy "the little blue pill"

changing your email password gets rid of it

do a spyware and a virus scan as well

            Re: Strange email failed deliveries?

99.99% of these sort of emails are not geniune. Simple rule is always ignore and delete emails like that UNLESS it is something very specific that you are EXPECTING. Then read very carefully to make sure it is not just a coincidence. If in any doubt find (from another source) the phone number of the company the email claims to come from and call them.

              Re: Strange email failed deliveries?

DO NOT open any attachments that are often included with such email. I am not sure if current IE still does it (I use alternative browsing software) but it used to open all attachments by default - this is what such emails exploit, but if IE still does it, go to options and disable "open attachments by default".

Most commonly, this emails will have two types of attachments - phishing for information(as per militant above) or, more serious, trojans that to take over your computer/gather info as you use your computer (passwords, bank accounts).

If it was your email that bounced (it happens sometimes when sending an email to someone whose email address was taken over the phone/bad handwriting, my problem) you will see the bounced address somewhere in the first two paragraphs. Check your "sent" folder if unsure that you've sent that email. Anyway, even if you recognize the bounced address there is NO need to open any attachments, the text of the email will be displayed at the bottom of the email and VERY OCCASIONALLY when attachments are used they will contain a summary of your email.

I've got Zone Alarm but it hasn't picked anything up, there's no attachments to them and I wouldn't open them if there was

Try Malwarebytes, unlike AV progs malware can usually run alongside each other. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
