  • Bailiffs and Debt Collections Agents: What threats have they made to you?

This thread is for use in collating the most common or not so common threats that have been made either via the phone or on the doorstop by a Debt Collection Agent or Bailiff.

At the moment please do not use the name of the company involved and hopefully we can find a common denominator in what has been said to you.

Re: Bailiffs and Debt Collections Agents: What threats have they made to you?

One debt collector once told me on the phone that they would register a black mark against me with the CRAs and that I would never again be able to get credit.

Oh and then there is the bit about making me bankrupt, taking my possessions away and putting it in the newspapers that I owed money.

I had a phone call from debt collectors and when I asked for all communication in writing he asked why. I said that it was in the OFT guidelines on debt collections and that the account was in dispute due to a complaint with the FOS. He said that wasn't a good enough excuse and that they would keep calling................and they have

Re: Bailiffs and Debt Collections Agents: What threats have they made to you?

The usual ones I have seen are along the lines of....

One of our agents will call at your house to collect payment in full...

You will receive a CCJ and will be unable to get credit for at least 6 years...

We will arrive with police to gain entry to your house....

If we do not receive payment within 7 days legal proceedings will be commenced against you.....

We will arrange for one of agents to remove goods from your house .....

Yawn , yawn ,yawn. I`d\be bloody happy if they did start `legal proceedings ` against me , then I can get it stayed pending the outcome of the Test Case seeing as its made up entirely of charges and in dispute.
Any opinions I give are my own. Any advice I give is without liability. If you are unsure, please seek qualified legal advice.

I do want to add one thing, IF debt collection agencies fail to act AFTER you have asked for all correspondence in writing then keep a log, Grimbell, if you have reported the DCA already once, that conversation if you have a name should be relayed to FOS

Bailiff turned up at my (obviously pregnant) daughters house and because she wouldn't let him in or sign anything he said became very aggressive and said he was coming back with the police and she would go straight to prison for the debt she owed. He also waved a piece of paper at her that gave him the right to have her sent to prison , enter her house and take all her goods.

the man frightened her half to death She went into labour 2 days later!

If somebody turns up they would have hot water to deal with and not plain hot.

You need to send a copy of your utility bill etc off to capquest. Do not open any mail and mark return to sender as opening someone elses mail is a criminal offence.
