  • payment of redundency in new tax year

    Hi
I wonder if anyone can help. I have just been told i am being made redundant. I have a 3 month notice period, plus I am being paid an additional month as they acknowledge they are not following the 30 day consultation period as i am one of only 4 people going at this time. My employer wishes to pay 4 months pay (3 months notice and 1 month consultation) in one lump sum in the form of an enhanced payment with my redundancy payment. However I would like to receive 4 montly payments taking me into April and a new tax year, this would mean that i would pay less tax on the redundancy payment.
Is this legally accepatble and what reason could the company have for not allowing this to happen.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Your company are trying to finnish the financial year, this would be admirable from a legal respect, however, if your renumerance is fair for the service you put in, then you really should respect the current terms.
However, if you put in 25 years service and you feel you deserve more, then this would be a matter for ACAS, some companies knowing they are going to fold, co-inside this with the finacial year, as it makes the final sums easier,

Check it, but when I was made redundant about 4 years ago I didn't pay tax on my redundancy. Was told it was a tax free payment.

      Hopefully this will help.
