  • Why I am left liable with no cover?

    Brief version:-

During the Big Freeze a seal in the cold-water pipe in my kitchen failed and began running water under my floor, causing the gyproc and the the tiles to rise. When the floor was lifted, all the gyproc was sodden and water had began to go through to the downstair's neighbours kitvhen. Upshot was , I needed new floor, he needed new roof.

I could not get through to anybody in HBOS about a claim, but I had to sort the floor and, in good faith, I paid up front for my neighbour's kitchen roof to be re-done, as I thought I would be reimbursed by HBOS. Not so!

The whole thing has dargged on for four months with still no settlement (FOS now involved) but the main bugbear is that HBOS will not reimburse me for something that I am lead to understand is my responsibilty!

CAn anyone elighten me on what's going on here, why I am not covered for this. If I crash into someone else's car, my insurance co will handle it so why is the same not true for building insurance?
