  • Benefit Payments Capped £500 pw / Child Benefit removed from higher rate tax payers

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, has announced that from 2013 total household benefit payments will be capped on the basis of average take-home pay; and Child Benefit will be withdrawn from households that include a higher rate taxpayer. The cap will apply to the combined income from: the main income replacement benefits; other means-tested benefits; Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit; and other benefits such as Carer's Allowance and the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. All Disability Living Allowance Claimants, War Widows and working families claiming the working tax credit will be exempt from the cap. Legislation will be introduced in the Welfare Reform Bill.URL: http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/press_48_10.htm

CAP excludes Free School Meals, but include housing and council tax benefits. All Disability Living Allowance claimants, War Widows, and working families claiming the working tax credit will be exempt from the cap.

Re: Benefit Payments Capped £500 pw / Child Benefit removed from higher rate tax paye

Mr Osbourne is dodging the real issue here. The public are having to pay for the shortcomings of the banks. They caused this problem, it was not over spending by the last Government as the coalition would have us believe, it was bailing out the banks. This rhetoric from the present govenment about overspending by the last is just a smokescreen so that they can dodge the real issue about taking the banks to task.

The last goverment were not much good at sorting out the banks either. This country will never be strong and fair again until the banks are taken to task and we have strong politicians who really care.

This latest move whilst it seems a good idea is a very unfair way of raising revenue (doesn't affect me personally, wish it did) just as an example, if both parents earn £40.000 then they will still get Child Benefit yet if one parent earns £44.000 regardless of wether the other parent works they won't. How can that be fair???

What about all the mega rich that have all their assets registered abroad so that they don't pay any Tax??? Mr Osbourne isn't very keen to be going after these people.

    Sorry to rant...

Is good to rant but you are right they never give the full facts look at camoron this morning on sky dodging the questions and i am sick and tired of hearing the coalition using labour as an excuse for there actions all the time for heavens sake change the record
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.
