Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice please.

Around 10 years ago I paid tax to HMRC with a £20k overdraft I had with HSBC, the money was due to be paid to me from a contract I had at the time but the company never paid me. When the economy collapsed HSBC pulled my £20k overdraft immediately and passed my debt onto a debt recovery agency. Rightly or wrongly I've effectively dodged paying anything back for the past 10 years as I feel aggrieved as it technically wasn't my debt - I never received the money from contractor.

I dealt with a couple of debt agencies and at 1 point a couple of years back I was sent an offer to pay back £7.5k to clear the debt. I was taking them up on this offer and getting a loan to pay it off however as this process was taking place they then passed the debt onto a different debt recovery agency. This new agency never offered me the same deal and have been hounding me for the £18k for the past 18 months. It has eventually gone to a sheriffs court citation to which I need to reply by the 2nd November - either to agree to pay or to reject it and defend the action. Do you think there is any point fighting this case or should I grudgingly agree to pay and offer them a monthly repayment plan??

    Thanks in advance
