  • TV licence registration

I do not own a TV nor do I watch or stream live TV via any other device in my home. I therefore dispensed with my TV license and informed the licencing agency as required. My question is, am I legally or in any other way obliged to regularly update them as to my circumstances? I have received a letter saying that as I have not updated them recently my property is under investigation and an agent will visit.
I understand the need to register to vote, or pay tax, or indeed to pay for a license to watch TV, but to also register that you don't watch TV seems a bit totalitarian!

Regards and thanks in advance for reading/commenting,

    Matt

We did the same ... we get a letter (I believe) every 2yrs asking us to confirm that we still don't need the license. All you really need to do is tell them that nothing has changed and you should be fine xx

I find it easier to just tell them at we still don't need a license every couple of years lol ... 5 mins filling out an online form for two years of no hassle/letters/visits etc... is worth it xx

I used to enjoy having Mr Nice and Mr Nasty turn up at the door.
Had lots of interesting conversations about the metal strapped to the chimney by previous owner as to whether it was a television aerial or a sophisticated bird perch!

I've had the "we are iinvestigating letter" each year for the last 13 years and file it in the round receptacle. To date never had a visit. I'm hoping they do come as it will be ideal to tell these Capita goons they are trespassing and to get away before i have them lifted - they have no rights of access despite anything they may say or do.
